Luuqad vs Rosetta Stone for learning Somali

Rosetta Stone taught the world that you can learn a language from pictures and sound alone. Luuqad applies the same idea to Somali, for children, with one big difference: the pictures are Somali.

Rosetta Stone's strengths are its speech recognition, its polished immersion units and its long track record in schools. Its content, however, is generic by design, the same stock photos and sentence frames for every language, and it does not offer Somali at all.

Luuqad's pictures show canjeero, camels, an aqal and Somali family characters, because a child learning Somali should see Somali life. Every word has native audio, every topic has a quiz, and the games teach culture along with vocabulary. It does not have speech recognition, and it is honest about that: it teaches children to hear and say words with a real speaker rather than grading their accent.
