The longer answer
Babbel is a subscription app built around structured, conversation-first courses written by language teachers. Its catalogue has stayed deliberately small, fourteen languages, all of them large European languages plus Turkish, Indonesian and Russian. Babbel has said it prefers depth to breadth, which is good news for its learners and bad news for anyone looking for Somali.
Because Babbel writes and records every course from scratch with voice actors and editors, adding a language is expensive, and there is no sign that Somali is in its plans. Its help centre's list of available languages has not changed in years.
If what you like about Babbel is real recorded voices and a structured path, Luuqad offers both for Somali: every word recorded by a native speaker, a guided Learning Path through 18 topics, and quizzes that build on each other, designed for children rather than for business travellers.
What to use instead
For children and families, Luuqad is built only for Somali: 18 real-life topics, 250 words and phrases with native-speaker audio, a quiz for every topic, 12 games and a Grown-ups area. It is free to download on iPhone and iPad. Browse every word it teaches before you install anything.
For adults who want a large travel vocabulary fast, uTalk, Ling, LinGo Play also offer Somali content. Our alternatives page compares all of them honestly.
