Meaning

Haramcad is the leopard in the Luuqad app, a big spotted cat found across the Somali countryside. Speakers do not all agree on the name: in some regions and dictionaries haramcad is the cheetah and the leopard is shabeel. Both animals live in the Somali region, so children may hear either use. The leopard is haramcadka.

Tip: Practise the last syllable with cad, the word for white, then add haram in front.

Example sentences

Kani waa haramcad. This is a leopard.
Haramcadku wuu ordayaa. The leopard is running.

Using Haramcad at home

Point at the real thing and say "Haramcad" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Haramcad is taught with a picture, tested in the Animals quiz and practised in Baadiyo Journey and Animal Trails.
