Rah

Frog

RAH · A short a and a clearly pronounced h at the end.
Rah (Frog): illustration from the Luuqad Animals lesson

Meaning

Rah is the frog. Frogs appear after the rains, so the word belongs with the rainy seasons, gu and dayr, when ponds fill up. Rah is masculine: the frog is raha.

Tip: The h at the end is pronounced; do not let it go silent.

Example sentences

Kani waa rah. This is a frog.
Rahu wuu boodayaa. The frog is jumping.

Using Rah at home

Point at the real thing and say "Rah" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Rah is taught with a picture, tested in the Animals quiz and practised in Baadiyo Journey and Animal Trails.
