Funaanad is a sweater or jumper, and many speakers use it for a T-shirt as well. It is feminine: the sweater is funaanadda, and the plural is funaanado. With jaakad and gacmo gashi it completes the winter set for a child in the diaspora.

Tip: The middle syllable carries the long aa: fu-NAA-nad.

Using Funaanad at home

Point at the real thing and say "Funaanad" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Funaanad is taught with a picture, tested in the Clothing quiz and practised in Drag & Learn.
