Meaning

Iska warran means how are you?. Warran means tell the news and iska means of yourself, so Iska warran literally asks you to give news of yourself. It is the everyday Somali how are you, said right after the greeting, and it is friendly rather than formal. The usual reply is Waan fiicanahay (I am fine) or simply Nabad (peace), which is the universal Somali answer to almost any how-are-you question. You can then send it back with Adiguna? (and you?).

Tip: Nabad, which means peace, answers Iska warran, Sidee tahay and almost any other how-are-you question.
