Raali ahow

I'm sorry

RAA-li a-HOW
Small Talk topic in the Luuqad app

Meaning

Raali ahow means i'm sorry. Raali means content or forgiving and ahow means be, so the phrase asks the other person to be forgiving. It is the everyday I am sorry and also excuse me, for example when you need to pass someone or interrupt. Somalis often add iga (from me) for a fuller apology: Iga raali ahow, forgive me. A common reply is Dhib ma leh, no problem.
