You understand Somali. Now say it out loud.
You know what ayeeyo said. You laughed at the joke. And when it was your turn, English came out. Heritage speakers have listening far ahead of speaking, and the fix is not grammar. It is vocabulary you can reach for, and real voices to copy until the words feel like yours.

Sentences first

Copy real speakers
Long vowels, c, x and q: the sounds English flattens. Every word has a native recording to match.

Questions heritage speakers ask
I understand almost everything but cannot form sentences. Where do I start?
Start with Express Emotion and Small Talk: full sentences you already understand, recorded by native speakers, that you can say back until they are automatic. Then use the guided Learning Path to fill vocabulary gaps.
Is the app too childish for an adult?
It is designed for children, and adults tell us that is exactly why it works: no grammar tables, no pressure, just pictures, voices and quick quizzes. Heritage speakers usually move through topics quickly.
Will it help my accent?
Every word is recorded by a native speaker, so you copy the real thing, including the long vowels and the c, x and q sounds English speakers flatten. The Listen and Tap game trains your ear on exactly those.
Can I learn to read and write Somali?
Yes. Somali spelling is completely regular, so once you know the alphabet you can read anything. The Alphabet topic and the Word Weaver game cover it.
