πͺ Explore & learn
Baadiyo Journey
A six-round story set in the baadiyo, the Somali countryside. Children help a family pack for the day, find water (biyo) for the goats, choose the right animals and follow the road home, learning words in the place they belong. Every round asks a real question with pictures and native audio, and the story changes with the answers.
- Countryside and animal words
- Food and water
- Following a story in Somali
πΊ Culture & clues
Heritage Hunt
A treasure hunt through Somali material culture. Children read a clue, find the object and learn its name and story: the aqal (the nomadic home of curved poles and woven mats), the dhiil (milk vessel), the dabqaad (incense burner), aws (woven mats), the shanlo (carved comb) and the baaquli (wooden bowl). Each find comes with a short fact a grandparent would recognise.
- Six heritage objects and their names
- Reading clues in English and Somali
- Somali nomadic culture
π Animals & sorting
Animal Trails
Eight rounds of sorting: wild animals, farm animals and pets appear on the trail and children guide each one to its group while hearing its Somali name. Libaax, geel, ri and bisad stop being a list and become creatures with a place.
- 20 animal names
- Wild, farm and domestic groups
- Listening for the right word
π§Ί Numbers & food
Market Day
A trip to the suuq. Children hear an order in Somali, "saddex moos", "shan canjeero", and fill the basket with exactly the right number, practising numbers and food words together the way they are used at a real market stall.
- Numbers 1β20
- Food words
- Listening to quantities
𧡠Letters & spelling
Word Weaver
Given a handful of letters, children weave them into Somali words they have learned, hearing each word as it is completed. Because Somali is spelled exactly as it sounds, this is where the alphabet lesson turns into reading.
- Spelling with the Somali alphabet
- Long vowels written double
- Recognising learned words
π¨ Colors & calm
Coloring
A coloring book with a purpose: each picture comes with a three-color quest, "make the sky buluug, the grass cagaar, the sun jaalle", so color words are practised while the child paints. Finished pictures can be saved to the photo library.
- 11 color words
- Following instructions in Somali
- Fine motor skills
The classic pairs game with a twist: one card shows the Somali word, its partner shows the English, and every match plays the native recording. Three levels raise the number of pairs and the pace.
- Vocabulary from any topic
- Reading Somali words
- Memory and focus
π Pictures & words
Drag & Learn
Pictures on one side, Somali words on the other. Children drag each picture to its word, or tap to match, and hear the word confirmed by a native speaker. It works well for the youngest learners who cannot read yet.
- Pictureβword links
- Listening
- Any topic's vocabulary
π Home words
House Builder
Children build a house room by room, the jiko, the musqul, the sariir in the bedroom, and complete quests inside each room that use the House topic's fifteen words. The house they build is theirs to keep.
- 15 house words
- Rooms and furniture
- Following quests in Somali
π§ Listening
Listen and Tap
Pure listening practice. A native speaker says a word; the child taps the matching picture from a set. Words that are missed come back later in the round, so the game quietly teaches the sounds a child finds hardest, including long vowels and the c, x and q sounds.
- Hearing long and short vowels
- The c, x and q sounds
- Vocabulary recall
Match Somali number words to digits and pictures, at an easy pace or against the clock. Kow to labaatan, with native audio for every number.
- Numbers 1β20
- Reading number words
- Quick recall
Pick any topic, see a picture or hear a word, and tap the right Somali word from four choices. Missed words are collected for a practice round at the end, so every game finishes with the words that needed it most.
- Any topic's vocabulary
- Reading Somali
- Self-testing
