Unit 5 · Everyday Life · Dareenka

Somali emotions words

Children who can name their feelings in Somali can share them with grandparents, and that is the point of this topic. Faraxsan (happy), murugeysan (sad), daallan (tired), cabsi (fear): ten words that cover most of what a child needs to say about the inside of their day.

About the Emotions topic

Somali emotion words are adjectives, and they attach to the verb "to be" in a very regular way: faraxsan becomes waan faraxsanahay (I am happy). The app teaches the base word here and the full "I am…" sentences in the Express Emotion lesson, so the two topics work as a pair.

All ten words have native audio and an illustration.
