Meaning

Deggan means calm, settled or quiet. It comes from the verb deg, to settle or come to rest. To say I am calm, say waan degganahay. The same word means settled in a place, so waxaan degganahay London means I live in London, a sentence every diaspora child can use.

Tip: Deggan is calm and settled at once: a calm child and a family settled in a city both use it.

Example sentences

Waan degganahay.I am calm.
Cunuggu waa deggan yahay. The child is calm.

Using Deggan at home

Point at the real thing and say "Deggan" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Deggan is taught with a picture, tested in the Emotions quiz and practised in Tap the Word.
