Geed (Tree): illustration from the Luuqad City lesson

Meaning

Geed means tree, and also plant. It is a masculine noun, geedka, and the plural is geedo. In Somali tradition elders often hold their meetings in the shade of a large tree, so geed is a word with weight beyond the garden.

Example sentences

Geedku waa dheer yahay. The tree is tall.
Geedka hoostiisa fadhiiso.Sit under the tree.

Using Geed at home

Point at the real thing and say "Geed" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Geed is taught with a picture, tested in the City quiz and practised in Baadiyo Journey.
