Meaning

Garbasaar is the shawl women drape over the shoulders and head, worn with a dirac or over everyday clothes. The name explains itself: garbo, shoulders, plus saar, to place on. The app glosses it as scarf, and in the diaspora the word is used for a winter scarf too, though many families say shaal for that. It is feminine: the shawl is garbasaarta.

Tip: Garab, shoulder, is in the Face & Body topic; garbasaar is what sits on it.

Example sentences

Garbasaarta xidho.Put on the shawl.
Ayeeyo garbasaar ayay xidhan tahay.Grandma is wearing a shawl.

Using Garbasaar at home

Point at the real thing and say "Garbasaar" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Garbasaar is taught with a picture, tested in the Clothing quiz and practised in Drag & Learn.
