Meaning

Malawax is a sweet, thin pancake a little like a crêpe, often flavoured with cardamom and eaten with sugar, honey or ghee. It is a breakfast and a treat at the same time, and it is usually the first Somali dish children ask to help cook.

Example sentences

Malawax malab ku dar.Put honey on the malawax.
Malawax ayaan jeclahay.I like malawax.

Using Malawax at home

Point at the real thing and say "Malawax" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Malawax is taught with a picture, tested in the Food quiz and practised in Baadiyo Journey and Market Day.
