Meaning

Shaah is tea, and in Somali life it means spiced, milky, sweet tea made with cardamom, cinnamon and cloves. Shaah cadeys is tea with milk; shaah bigeys is black tea. It is served at breakfast, after meals and every time a guest arrives, so it is one of the most useful words a child can know.

Tip: Shaah cadeys, milky tea, is what most families mean when they say shaah.

Example sentences

Shaah ma cabtaa?Do you drink tea?
Shaaha waa kulul yahay. The tea is hot.

Using Shaah at home

Point at the real thing and say "Shaah" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Shaah is taught with a picture, tested in the Food quiz and practised in Baadiyo Journey and Market Day.
