Meaning

Qalin means pen. It comes from Arabic and is a masculine noun: qalinka, the pen. Somali uses it for any writing tool, so a pencil is qalin qori, a wooden pen.

Tip: Qalin i sii (give me a pen) is one of the first useful classroom sentences.

Example sentences

Qalin i sii.Give me a pen.
Kani waa qalin. This is a pen.

Using Qalin at home

Point at the real thing and say "Qalin" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Qalin is taught with a picture, tested in the School quiz and practised in Tap the Word.
