Meaning

Saaxiibo means friends. One friend is saaxiib, and a female friend is saaxiibad. The word came from Arabic, and it is used warmly: saaxiib is also how strangers greet each other in a shop or a taxi. Children usually meet their first Somali-speaking friends at school or at dugsi.

Tip: Saaxiib for a boy, saaxiibad for a girl, saaxiibo for the whole group.

Example sentences

Saaxiibo badan baan leeyahay.I have many friends.
Saaxiibo cusub baan helay.I made new friends.

Using Saaxiibo at home

Point at the real thing and say "Saaxiibo" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Saaxiibo is taught with a picture, tested in the School quiz and practised in Tap the Word.
