Stomach

'a-LOOL · Starts with the throat sound c, and the oo is long.
Calool (Stomach): illustration from the Luuqad Face & Body lesson

Meaning

Calool is the stomach or belly. It is feminine and irregular: the stomach is caloosha, because the l and the article -ta merge into sh. The sentence to know for a sick child is caloosha ayaa i xanuunaysa, my stomach hurts. Calool also appears in feelings: calool xun, literally bad stomach, means sad or upset.

Tip: The same l-plus-ta rule turns il, eye, into isha, and musqul, bathroom, into musqusha.

Example sentences

Caloosha ayaa i xanuunaysa. My stomach hurts.
Calooshaydu way buuxdaa. My stomach is full.

Using Calool at home

Point at the real thing and say "Calool" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Calool is taught with a picture, tested in the Face & Body quiz and practised in Drag & Learn.
