Meaning

Dhabar is the back of a person or an animal. It is masculine: the back is dhabarka. For the back of a room or for standing behind something Somali uses other words, such as gadaal, so dhabar stays with the body.

Tip: Dhabarka i saar means put me on your back: the Somali way to ask for a piggyback.

Example sentences

Dhabarka ayaa i xanuunaya. My back hurts.
Dhabarkaaga toosi.Straighten your back.

Using Dhabar at home

Point at the real thing and say "Dhabar" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Dhabar is taught with a picture, tested in the Face & Body quiz and practised in Drag & Learn.
