Garab (Shoulder): illustration from the Luuqad Face & Body lesson

Meaning

Garab is the shoulder. It is masculine: the shoulder is garabka, and the plural is garbo, so the shoulders is garbaha. Garab also means support: to give someone garab is to stand behind them. The shawl worn over the shoulders, garbasaar, takes its name from garbo.

Tip: Garbasaar, the shawl in the Clothing topic, is garbo plus saar: something placed on the shoulders.

Example sentences

Garbahaaga kor u qaad.Lift your shoulders.
Garabka ayaa i xanuunaya. My shoulder hurts.

Using Garab at home

Point at the real thing and say "Garab" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Garab is taught with a picture, tested in the Face & Body quiz and practised in Drag & Learn.
