Lug

Leg

LUG · A short u, as in the English word put.
Lug (Leg): illustration from the Luuqad Face & Body lesson

Meaning

Lug is the leg. It is feminine: the leg is lugta, the plural is lugo and the legs is lugaha. Somali, like English, keeps leg and foot separate: the foot is cag.

Tip: Lug has a short u as in put, not the u of the English word lug.

Example sentences

Lugta ayaa i xanuunaysa. My leg hurts.
Lugahaaga kor u qaad.Lift your legs.

Using Lug at home

Point at the real thing and say "Lug" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Lug is taught with a picture, tested in the Face & Body quiz and practised in Drag & Learn.
