Lamp

NAL · A short a and a clear l at the end.
Nal (Lamp): illustration from the Luuqad House lesson

Meaning

Nal is a lamp or an electric light. It is masculine: the light is nalka, and the plural is nalal. Two commands cover most of what a child needs: nalka shid, turn on the light, and nalka dami, turn off the light. The same word appears in nalka taraafikada, the traffic light, in the City topic.

Tip: Shid and dami work for anything that lights or burns: a lamp, a stove, a candle.

Example sentences

Nalka shid.Turn on the light.
Nalka dami.Turn off the light.

Using Nal at home

Point at the real thing and say "Nal" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Nal is taught with a picture, tested in the House quiz and practised in Heritage Hunt and Drag & Learn.
