Qalinka Qori

Pencil

QA-lin-ka QO-ri
Qalinka Qori (Pencil): illustration from the Luuqad School lesson

Meaning

Qalinka Qori means the pencil, literally the pen of wood: qalin is pen and qori is wood or a stick. Without the article it is simply qalin qori. Use it when you want a pencil rather than an ink pen.

Tip: Qori also means firewood and a stick, so a pencil is literally a little wooden pen.

Example sentences

Qalinka qori i sii.Give me the pencil.
Qalin qori baan haystaa.I have a pencil.

Using Qalinka Qori at home

Point at the real thing and say "Qalinka Qori" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Qalinka Qori is taught with a picture, tested in the School quiz and practised in Tap the Word.
