Meaning

Ciiryaan is fog or mist, the low cloud that hides the road on a cold morning. It is a noun, so you say maanta waa ciiryaan, today is foggy. Many speakers also say ceeryaamo for the same thing. Children in the diaspora meet this word more often than their parents did, on foggy school runs in London or Seattle.

Tip: Do not say a k or an s for the c: it is the deep sound from the back of the throat, as in the name Cali.
