Meaning

Dabeyl is wind. It is a feminine noun, and the l joins the article to make dabeysha, the wind. The dictionary spelling is dabayl; dabeyl is a common everyday spelling and the one used in the app. A storm with strong wind is duufaan.

Tip: Dabeyl plus the article -ta becomes dabeysha: l and t merge into sh, as in many Somali words.

Dabeyshu waa xoog badan tahay. The wind is strong.

Using Dabeyl at home

Point at the real thing and say "Dabeyl" whenever it comes up, then let your child hear the native recording and say it back. One word used ten times in a day beats ten words drilled once. In the Luuqad app, Dabeyl is taught with a picture, tested in the Weather quiz and practised in Tap the Word.
